Walking School Bus

What is a Walking School Bus? Children meet at a designated place and walk to school with adult supervision. They enjoy outdoor recreation, learn to walk safely, and arrive at school ready to focus. “Walking buses” benefit the community by reducing traffic congestion and air pollution associated with long car lines.

Fairhope Elementary School started a daily Walking School Bus in 2013 after six years of occasional walks, making Fairhope the first city in Alabama to have a daily walking school bus! International Walk to School in October and Santa Stroll in December are annual school-wide walking events at Fairhope Elementary.
